When John Wick was first released in 2014, it blew everyone away and turned into an instant action hit. Since sequels are often known for playing the same tune in a predictable key, you can understand my worrisome caution going into John Wick: Chapter 2. I’m happy to report that it does not disappoint.
John Wick: Chapter 2 picks up right where the first film left off, and it seems retirement just didn’t quite suit Mr. Wick (Keanu Reeves).
Chad Stahelski, one-half of the filmmaking duo who brought audiences the predecessor, returns and flawlessly captures the same atmosphere and thrills – it’s as if we never left. Despite inevitable riskiness with building on Wick’s violent world, Stahelski forges forward with exciting choreography (including great fights and hardcore stunts) and fantastic writing (including some great witty one-liners). His individual efforts in John Wick: Chapter 2 pay off incredibly well.
John Wick: Chapter 2 takes everything you loved about the first film and pushes it to a whole other level. Filmmakers and franchises take note: this is how a sequel should be made.
