All About Nina

New Yorker Nina is a stand-up comic with a blunt repertoire.  Her material is R-rated in a competitive way;  as if she’s trying to out-disgust other comedians at the open mic.  The truth, however, is her jokes are stale.  They’re not worthless, but Nina’s routine is on autopilot.  However, it’s what she has to do to survive in a world dominated by daunting masculinity and crass jokes.

John Wick: Chapter 2

By: Nick Ferwerda When John Wick was first released in 2014, it blew everyone away and turned into an instant action hit.  Since sequels are often known for playing the same tune in a predictable key, you can understand my worrisome caution going into John Wick: Chapter 2.  I’m happy to report that it does not disappoint.

Suicide Squad

Movie theatres have been over-saturated with comic book adaptations, and audiences have been spoiled.  “Spoiled” in two ways: studios want to give movie goers more bang for their buck, but by now, just about everyone is burnt out on these action/adventures.  Part of the reason Marvel’s Deadpool was such a success is because it wasn’t afraid to make fun of itself and reinvent the formula – people appreciated that breath of fresh air.
