Wish Upon

After its US premiere in July, Wish Upon has finally made its way north.  Unfortunately, it was’t screened for critics – no worries, it happens.  I paid $7 to see Wish Upon and, let me tell you, it’s a pretty good $7 movie.

Stonewall

Stonewall quickly came and went.  It was played at TIFF last year, and screened in the U.S. markets for a short time.  Critically and popularly reviled, Roland Emmerich’s pet project is completely different from his usual disaster films like Independence Day and The Day After Tomorrow.  Indeed, Stonewall is a heavily whitewashed take on the famous New York riots that played an integral part in formalizing the LGBTQ equality movement.

Wish I Was Here

By: Addison Wylie Epiphanies are mentioned in Wish I Was Here, Zach Braff’s return as a filmmaker.  It’s during a scene where Braff’s Aidan Bloom camps out with his two children Tucker and Grace (played by Pierce Gagnon and Joey King) on the outskirts of Los Angeles, where they find a gorgeous view of the desert on top of three isolated boulders. This talk about epiphanies made me nostalgic for Braff’s 2004 indie hit Garden…
