Blackbird

By: Jessica Goddard Despite its inexplicable first-rate cast, Blackbird is an eye-rollingly disappointing take on the terminal illness drama from director Roger Michell (Notting Hill, My Cousin Rachel).  Screenwriter Christian Torpe paints with a bland palette of stock characters to slap together a narrative infested with clichés and unnatural one-liners, leading nowhere of interest.

Shimmer Lake

Shimmer Lake is Coen Brothers-lite, yet it aspires to be a film worthy enough to stand beside those famous quirky noirs from the Academy-Award winners.  That would require Oren Uziel’s movie to be outrageous, which it isn’t.  An unfortunate discovery considering the leads are terrific comedic actors.

Cooties

By: Addison Wylie Cooties hits theatres and VOD at a fantastic time.
