By: Jessica Goddard Home Again is for Hollywood, by Hollywood, about Hollywood.  If you can deal with that, you might enjoy this safe and well-meaning romantic comedy.  Hallie Meyers-Shyer’s Home Again (a title which never ends up making any sense) is rarely laugh-out-loud funny, but it’s often endearing in a snort-and-smile kind of way.

Illumination Entertainment’s featherlight The Secret Life of Pets will surely entertain families.  The vibrant animals and the large-scale chases will delight youngsters, and adults – who may already be prepared to count down the minutes – will find strange gratification from hearing R-rated comedians lend their vocals to cute animals.

No Escape

By: Shannon Page John Erick Dowdle’s (As Above, So Below; Quarantine) action/thriller No Escape is about an American businessman named Jack (Owen Wilson) and his wife (Lake Bell) who, along with their two young daughters, are caught in the middle of a violent coup in an unnamed Southeast Asian country.  The film is surprisingly well-constructed and nuanced – all things considered.
